Mission to the Muslims - Malawi
Kalibu Kwa Yesu
Issue: 1 February 2010
Dearest Supporters and Partners our first publication
As a "Mission to the Muslims" is here. This is the work that the Lord Jesus Christ has placed on our hearts. To introduce my wife (Maria) and me (Mark) we got married in Finland on Dec 12th 2009. We met in Malawi whilst working at Kalibu Academy (www.kalibuacademy.org) an excellent Christian secondary school. Maria worked as the school nurse during term time. In the holidays she was teaching the women in the villages not forgetting preaching and evangelising at crusades. She worked like this for 2 years in Malawi. I went out to Malawi to study at the Bible School and I graduated after 2 and a half years of studying and practicals. During this time I also became the Superintendent of the boy's hostels. We've dedicated our lives to bringing the love of the Lord Jesus Christ to the "Muslim nations" it starts in Malawi!
"Why start in Malawi?"
Islam is the fastest growing religion in Africa where 45% of the population is already Muslim!!! In Malawi and 2 of its neighbouring countries (Mozambique and Tanzania) there are 20,000,000 Muslims and the number is growing! The Muslims are actively pursuing their vision of having at least one mosque every 5km throughout the nation. Standing by and leaving millions for the slaughter is not an option!
To the natural eye Malawi is just an insignificant small piece of real estate located on the shore of the 3rd largest lake in Africa. Well it's not to God. As God has done in the past He is going to use that which the world has rejected to represent Him.
Africa WILL rise up and be counted on the worldwide mission scene. This is why we are focusing our efforts on raising Africans to go forth unto the uttermost parts to declare salvation in Christ. While the West is falling away China and India are flowing forth as living waters. Their direction is going 'Back to Jerusalem!'
One in every four of the world's population is Muslim! The 10/40 window must beclosed! It is going to take many hands but will not be easy work. The Mission is under Kalibu Ministries (www.kalibu.org) which has over 30 years experience ministering in Africa. The establishment of a Bible School and Outreach Complex in Nkhotakota is of utmost importance. The location is central within the Muslim population of Malawi as well as being close enough to our already existing Churches.
This is not just a short term vision. Malawi is where it starts but it will go on to Mozambique, Zambia and Tanzania. So Nkhotakota is pretty central to the long term vision as well. Nkhotakota is not just centrally located it is also where Islam dug down and planted its suffocating roots first in Malawi. In the 1840's Nkhotakota and its surrounding area was under the control of a dynasty of Swahili Arab traders known to history as the Jumbes of Nkhotakota. David Livingstone saw the realities of the African Slave Trade whilst travelling through Nkhotakota - Many slaves and ivory passed through Nkhotakota. It was for this very reason that the Muslims came to Malawi. It is now time for Christ's "Slaves" to chase the slave routes all the way back to Mecca sharing the love of Jesus as they go.
Sending Forth the Church
Encouraging the Church to reach out into the Muslim majority areas is the only way to get long term breakthrough in these strongholds. Within 2 years we will have equipped Malawians from the Churches to go to these areas and establish new and lasting works.
Discipling and equipping local believers to work 'us' (the missionary) out of a job is our goal. The Bible School will work in 2 ways. Firstly we will take in existing Pastors and Elders from the Churches and equip them as is needed. We plan on taking 30 at one time for a 3 month period every year for 3 years.
That means that they will receive 9 months teaching and training. For this we need to build accommodation with cooking and washing facilities for 30 people, not forgetting classroom and accommodation for teachers.
Long term we plan on taking 3 groups of 30 every year (one group being all women) this will entail 9 months of fulltime programs at the compound every year. This is fundamental for long term success!
Secondly we will take in 30 fulltime Bible Students who will undergo 2 years teaching and discipleship and then 1 year of practicals. The Bible Students will be mostly younger believers from whom we will get some of our first 'Malawian Missionaries.' Again they will need accommodation, classroom and sanitary areas. The aim is to have both of these systems running simultaneously, which means we need to build for 60 people living, eating and learning at the same time. This is not a small task it will take time and money!
We will also focus on preparing and translating good biblical teaching into Chichewa (the local language) paying attention also on translating some biographies of the greats like Hudson Taylor and C T Studd etc to inspire and promote missionary endeavour amongst the village Churches. Eventually the Bible School will be fully running in Chichewa so that all of the teaching materials can be taken then straight to the villages where our graduates can pass on their knowledge so that it can be used again and again.
For this new endeavour we need your support more than ever!!! This work is a real affront to the enemy, your prayers and intercession is vital! The vision of bringing the light of the Lord Jesus Christ to Islam is critical and the need is desperate, the time is NOW!!!
During the 20th Century the world Muslim population grew from 12.3% to almost 25% at present. Yet still fewer than 10% of all missionaries' worldwide work amongst the Muslims. The "Sleeping Giant" of the West needs to re-awaken. Islam's dirty grip is upon Europe and needs a rude awakening!!!
Join us in the fight against radical Islam by prayer and fasting, by joining us on the mission field or by supporting the work financially. The need is now, we need you. 1,400,000,000 Muslims requires the Churches urgent attention!
Thank you for your support.
